Bohumil Zitek was born in 1873 the third son in a family of six sons of Matej Zitek and Magdalena Vichova of Vesela in Mokrouse, Bohemia. He and three brothers, Emmanuel, Robert, and Cyril emigrated to the United States and settled in the Chicago area. Bohumil married Anna Vitek and they had two children, Bohumil Jaroslav Zitek and Helen Ann Zitek. He and his wife built a beautiful home -- a bungalow -- in Berwyn, Illinois. After only a short time in their new home, Bohumil slipped and fell while delivering beer to his brother, Robert's tavern. Bohumil hit his head and was taken to the Illinois state hospital where he died a few months later.

Two other brothers, Methodius and Josef stayed in Mokrouse, Bohemia. Their descendents still live in what is now the Czech Republic.
