Anna Vitek Zitek Pilny

Anna Vitek was born in Strazovice, Bohemia a middle child in a family of 11 children. The family home, which you entered from the center where the hearth for cooking and heating was -- had three rooms -- the hearth and two additional rooms. The front room was used as a bar, which was how Anna's father earned a living. Unlike the other homes in Strazovice, a front door entrance was cut out in the front wall. The parents and 11 children slept in the other room. Anna and her siblings all emigrated to the United States. Known siblings are: Josefina (who married Josef Sikyta), Joseph, Marie (who married Frantisek Muzik), Anezka (who married Unknown Formanek and Theodore Papousek).

Anna married Bohumil Zitek in Chicago, Illinois and together they built a beautiful bungalow home in Berwyn, Illinois. She and Bohumil had two children, Bohumil Jaraslav Zitek and Helen Ann Zitek. Her husband slipped and fell on a wet wooden floor in his brother’s tavern while delivering beer and died a few months later, leaving a young widow with two small children. She eventually married Rudolph Pilny, a widower who had a young son, George.
